It has a sweet and heartwarming storyline, funny characters (Here's looking at you, Tootie), and fabulous songs. If you know anything about me, you know how I love musicals, so this movie is da bomb in my books!

If I could wear new clothes (that looked good on me) everyday, I think I would have a perma-smile on mah' face!

I bought a couple of super cute scrub tops today, you know the kind: cute pattern, colourful, figure-flattering with a tie in the back. I have never owned scrub tops like this, and I'm SO excited to go to work tomorrow so I can wear them.

This scrub top is by White Cross Uniforms, and it features a multi-coloured star pattern, with black ruffled sleeves and bottom, a band under the bust, and ties in the back.

Girly, and cute!

Not shown is my other new top which is a blue pattern with pinks, aquas and greens, and.... Ariel (from the Little Mermaid)!!! So fetch!

My cousin Marcela cursed my makeup when she said "Erika, you're not allowed to buy any other shade of cover-up, this cover-up is perfect! It is the perfect shade for your skin!". This obviously isn't word-for-word what she said, but it's pretty darn close! So, naturally, after she said this, my CoverGirl Tru-Blend Makeup in Buff Beige started to run low. Maybe this was a result of her curs-ed words, or just me using my make-up - who knows?

The next time I hit up Shoppers to buy some for faboosh cover-up, I purchased my shade with no hesitation. Only when I got home and tried it out, did I notice the slightly grey-tinged hue of it. This would have worked perfectly if I was undead in some way (vampire, zombie, etc), unfortunately I have yet to undergo that transformation. So, I returned it being the unsatisfied and unhappy customer that I was. I tried out a few more places and sadly, all the buff beige's in this region of the world are the same. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!

*Sigh*

But, I have seen the light and the light is Almay! Not only is it hypoallergenic and has salicylic (Pr. sa-click-click, to some people) acid to help fight blemishes, but it perfectly, perfectly matches my skin tone in the Neutral shade! I'm quite excited with my new find, and I know that I have been very happy with Almay products in the past. Here's to hoping this one works out!

WOOHOO!

I talked to both my sisters, both of whom have worked or currently work at hair salons, and they both agreed - it was the right thing to do.

Finally, I am at peace with my hair! I can now look at my hair without crying. It has been a good day.

[Edit: Thank you to all of those who expressed concern, sympathy, empathy and all those great emotions towards my hair-al distress!!]

It isn't horrible, it isn't atrocious it just. isn't. me.

I got my hair cut into a bob way back in December, and I figured it was about time to get it trimmed up a bit. I wanted a few "more layers" this time, "more movement", and not so bob-y. My hair dresser did nothing wrong, he did exactly that. But, the cut turned out to be the same length on the bottom, with shorter layers up top. I really do NOT like it. Every time I look at it, I want to cry.

Like I said, it isn't a horrible cut and I know on some people it'd be fine, maybe even nice. It just isn't a cut for me. As someone who doesn't style their hair, I can't deal with a cut with so many layers. To me, it looks slightly mullet-ish, and I know it doesn't actually look like that, but that's what I see. I'd post a picture of it, but I can't bear to even photograph it. Ugh.

I am seriously going to pray hard that is grows out - fast.

I know kid, I know.

I reminisced as I opened it and gazed lovingly at my two adorable upper wisdom teeth - out of my mouth. Well, these teeth have been out for about 4 years now, but darn, they just get cuter each year!

Back in my day, in dental school, I gave these puppies (puppies=teeth) reverse root canals - meaning that I went from the roots/bottom up! Fun!

For your own viewing pleasure, I did a mini photo shoot with my teeth, and I even post-processed the pictures! Fun and kind of strange! Something only a dental person will do. :)

I stayed at my place (instead of going to my parent's house) in order to clean it. I didn't. My own laziness astounds me sometimes, and I'm just so gosh-darned easily distracted!

Particularly distracting was the W channel, which had a triple flick of Sandra Bullock movies. First was "Two Weeks Notice", followed by "The Lake House", with "Miss Congeniality" rounding it up. I had, at that point, seen the first and last, but not "The Lake House", which also stars my beloved Keanu Reeves. Keanu? Call me. Let's make cute babies. Please?! Anyhoomoo...

So, I decided to watch "The Lake House", because I'd never seen it. I was getting to the climax of the movie, the last half hour or so, when I saw a bit of movement by my TV stand. I froze, then looked again and tried to focus my eyes in the twilight lighting of my place (it was about 7:30pm-ish). Guessss WHAT! It was a giant spider! WOOHOO. I can't even begin to vent my frustrations of living underground (read: basement suite) and the bugs that come with it. I don't mind medium sized ones, I don't mind small ones - and by "mind" I mean, killing them is not as terrifying. But the big ones? EEEK!

The worst part of all was that, when I looked at the spider, it paused, then ran back under (or what I thought was under) the TV stand. I quickly gathered my spider combat armamentarium: tall rubber boots, raid, and a heavy shoe. I spent the next 20 minutes or so not focusing on the most important part of the movie, and thus, missing the whole plot twist and ending, but instead waiting for this stupid mo-fo to appear. Not fun.

It finally came out from behind a box and I screamed, and sprayed, and jumped up and down, and squealed. My spider combat phrases consist of:

"AHHHHHHHH" "EEEEEEEEEK" "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?!!" "DIE MOTHER ******! DIE!!!"

I apologize, it can get quite explicit.

To sum up, I triumphed over the evil son-of-a-gun. I sprayed the poop out of it until it was moving slower than before, before I promptly dropped a shoe on it. I have deadly accuracy with shoes. 'Tis a gift.

It was the perfect way to spend the evening, and it left me feeling paranoid and afraid. So paranoid and afraid that I kept my boots on until I went to sleep much, much later.

For the sake of my eyes and my readers eyes, I will NOT be posting a picture of the type of spider. It was big and gross. Fin.

Phew....

As a recycling enthusiast and someone who is overly passionate about saving the environment (is there such a thing?), I thought I would watch.

This show was researching how much electricity is actually flowing through appliances that are turned off or on standby mode (computers, televisions, etc). This phenomenon is called "vampire power" or "phantom load" - ooo SPOOKY! According to Wikipedia, it is the "electric power consumed by electronic appliances while they are switched off or in a stand-by mode". From this same article I learned that Alan Meier's (of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) 2000 study showed that standby power accounted for around 10% of household power-consumption! Ten percent, people! Continuing on...

The most shocking part about this show that I watched, was when the watts consumed by appliances were calculated, the host's main concern was the cost a person pays for this unused energy. He basically stated that since the actual cost of powering these appliances wasn't huge in the long run, we can keep these items plugged in! I found this kind of saddening. I mean, being "green" is not just about saving money, it's about saving the Earth. I, for one, will continue to unplug as many electrical items as I can. Not only does this cut down, even a little bit, on the energy used, but it also cuts down on fire risks, and that makes a paranoid person like me happy. :)

In spirit of saving the Earth, today also happens to be Earth hour 2009. At 8:30pm tonight, you are encouraged to turn off all your lights for one whole hour!

Flick the switch and do your part!

This I know to be true. Late nights prove to be a very interesting and useful time for me, and I never quite know what I'll get up to. While mere mortals are getting "sleepy" (puh-leaze!), I'm just getting started!

I partake in many late-night activities (all within the safety of my place, fear not) including, but not limited to:

-solo dance parties

-baking

-washing dishes

-much-needed cleaning - I just can't bring myself to do it during the day.

-painting

I'm really not sure what makes me stay up so late, I just can't help it. As the night wears on, I become more alert and not-sleepy...until about 3:30am. I know, it's shocking.

Well, to get to the point of this blog...

For the past 3 days, I have had a dream. A dream of muffins, but not just any muffins - blueberry muffins! I knew I could count on Martha, so I searched her site and found the perfect recipe: Healthy Banana-Blueberry Muffins.

This recipe solved a few of my problems. For starters, I was craving blueberry muffins - check! Secondly, I had bananas at a stage that were too ripe for me to ingest in fruit-form - check!

So, I baked 'em up in the wee hours of the morning, and I am quite impressed with the recipe. It tastes as the title suggests, the muffins taste "healthy" - but not in a food-that-is-healthy-but-actually-tastes-dry-and-cardboardy way. These muffins are light, delicious, fruity, and taste like you aren't eating 500 calories per serving. It's a very easy recipe to follow, and I so beat her "20 minute" prep time - HA!

Try 'em out!

I hate diamond Shreddies with a passion, and I pray to the sweet Kellogg's gods that they stop this ridiculousness SOON! However, I love square Shreddies.
2. I hate it when teachers make you stand up and introduce yourself to the class. At this time of my life, I refuse to do this anymore, and have said more than once "For the people who know me - hello. For those who don't, too bad".
3. I love Disney with every ounce of my soul and would sell my soul to Disney for its love in return.
4. I love that I'm 5'7", and a bit taller than most girls, but I still feel sad that I'm ONLY 5'7".
5. I love meat and am a carnivore in the worst way. You couldn't even pay me enough money to not eat meat.
6. I love dinosaurs and the Jurassic Park movies, and I really feel I would make an awesome raptor...
7. Sometimes when I'm working on a patient, I have a moment of pure terror when I realize how close I am to the patient, and that my hands/fingers/etc are in their mouths...
8. I spend most of my days at work lip-synching under my mask.
9. I haaate people who disrespect the English language by using poor grammar and spelling improperly.
10. I am working on developing a task force that will be known as the "Grammar Police". Violators will be prosecuted - or beaten - or both! :)
11. Some days, I wake up and I am truly convinced I can speak fluent Spanish. I'm always disappointed when I call my Mom to test it out... it never works.
12. I wish that my parents had forced me to do many things as a child: learn Spanish, play team sports, learn to play the piano - properly. *sigh*
13. I love environmentalism and being green. I get warm, fuzzy feelings when I recycle.
14. I've always had a talent for doing harmony - my sisters used this to their advantage when we sang, as a result, I was almost always the back-up singer.
15. I strongly dislike being told what to do. If you tell me what to do, I will try my hardest not to. 16. I apologize way too often when it's unnecessary, and don't apologize enough when it's actually needed.
17. When I look at pictures of spiders ( I don't know why I do it, but whatever!), I get full-on-heeby-jeeby-shiver-me-timbers-shakes...
18. I play with my earrings when I'm uncomfortable with a situation/person.
19. I'd love to be a successful artist one day, but I don't paint often enough to accomplish my dream.
20. I'm terrified of birds.
21. I love nutella too much that I don't buy it, so it isn't in my house, tempting and taunting me.
22. If I'm in my bathroom in front of my mirror, or in front of a doorway, I close the door because I'm afraid of seeing something go by...
23. At some point in my life, I want to go see great white sharks up close, hopefully in a shark cage - or just on a boat!
24. I still have my Christmas decorations up. :o
25. I love sparkles something fierce!

We finished putting on the ornaments and finished watching the movie, so she went home.

Later that night, I was decorating some burned cd's and watching another movie on TV, when I heard a strange clicking noise. Later, I would realize this noise was not clicking, but cracking. Towards the end of my movie, the noise had become so frequent, I stood near the source of my noise - my Christmas tree - trying to determine the exact culprit.

No sooner had I done this, and heard the noise again, when my tree suddenly started to fall over! I was holding my tree precariously, trying desperately to fix the stand when I noticed some white-ish fracture lines along the base of the plastic stand. I had only just noticed these lines when my tree decided to break promptly into three, yes, THREE pieces! After all of this happened, I was left holding the remnants of my tree - the middle piece.

A few questions that you may have at this point:

Q: Why did your tree break into three pieces?

A: I believe in purchasing fake Christmas trees to preserve the real ones in the wild. Fake trees come in separate pieces - some assembly required.

2. Q: The tree spontaneously broke into three pieces, really?

A: Well, to tell you the truth, I had thought of the brilliant idea of pulling the tree out of the stand - my mistake is that I grabbed the middle section. Had I grabbed the lowest section, I quite possibly could have propped my tree up against the wall until a new stand was purchased. Nuts!

3. Q: So, what's the big deal?! Take the tree back to the store!

A: If only it was that easy. Unfortunately, due to a few oversights from last year's purchase of the tree, I failed to get a receipt for said tree, and didn't notice until I got home. Double nuts!

My younger sister, the comedienne, pointed out the hilarity of my situation: "The best part is that your Christmas tree broke and it's not even December!" Yes. I'm still laughing...

I have to admit if this had happened to someone else I would be laughing up a storm. All I can say, is that I'm very happy right now that I bought (mostly) plastic ornaments. Phew...After all is said and done, it's been quite an eventful night. I'm left with a feeling of emptiness, that I'm sure can only be brought on by such a tragic event. My Christmas tree is in ruins on my floor, and I'm not quite sure how to resolve this "issue".

Does anyone have suggestions, similar situations, or a support group I can contact?

Having my own place allows me to go Christmas-crazy each year, decorating earlier each year. This year? Half-way through November. Yesss!

Along with my love of Christmas is my love for Tchaikovsky - the guy who composed the Nutcracker! - I love, love, love, his music. So, in my early Christmas spirit I have created two bee-A-ootiful Christmas-themed backgrounds for your very own desktop!

Can I get a woot-woot?
Thank you.

I've made these backgrounds available in both 1024x768, and 800x600 pixel formats. Simply click on the desired image/size, download and enjoy!

800 x 600 1024 x 768

Note: If you like the background, you can buy the adorable wrapping paper here or here.

800 x 600 1024 x 768

Apparently that was the hot costume of the year, I know this because not only did my mother dress up as a witch, but so did my older sister in Winnipeg... AND her dog did too!

My younger sister dressed up as a Playboy bunny, to match her boyfriend who was suited up as Hugh Hefner. Trés sexy.

Also sexy?
